"Drs dont listen"

About: Worthing Hospital / Accident and emergency

During a visit to A +E this week following an inverted twisted ankle down the stairs. I was advised to visit there for an xray as foot had swollen to twice its size and bruised.

As a nurse manager I am aware of how to treat myself in regards to injuries.

On my Arrival the staff were lovely and polite. When taken into minors I was seen by a Dr who told me that because I could weight bear it probably wasn't broken.

I had my xray on my top of my foot and inner aspect of my foot, despite the pain and swelling being on my lateral malleous.

24 hours later the swelling is worse, the bruising is worse and ability to weight bear is worsening, with occasional pins and needles. I actually don't want to return to the hospital, as I had already informed the Dr that the last time this happened I had broken my ankle in two places, but could still weight bear and go to the gym.

We were sorry to read that you had an accident recently and that you are concerned about the treatment from one of the A&E doctors.

Our advice is to contact your GP who can discuss the way forward for you.

Alternatively you can revisit A&E and ask to be seen by a different doctor.

As this site is anonymous we cannot take any action to help you through here but if you contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on 01903 285032 or palschichester@wsht.nhs.uk PALS can liaise with a clinician as to the best way forward for you.
