"Children's Inpatient Ward"

About: Colchester General Hospital

We just wanted to take the time to praise the fabulous service we received from the children's ward (inpatient) team. There are too many fantastic nurses and carers to name personally as our whole experience was superb.

Our child (8) was treated as an emergency case and the attention and care we received (both as a patient and a parent) were second to none. People could not do enough for us and every effort was made for us to be appraised of goings on at all times. We did not have a set time for our procedure but people constantly checked on us and reassured us until we were taken to have the operation.

When we went up to theatre and were handed over to an equally enthusiastic and welcoming team. My son remained positive throughout and I know that was, in many ways, down to the wonderfully caring and committed staff who smiled and answered every one of his questions. The play teams are a great idea also. My son had books and Lego delivered by staff who were very helpful and jolly.

Our experience was quite draining but made as stressless as possible by the wonderful team that surrounded us. They made a bad situation bearable and we are truly grateful. No task was too much - we asked for a snack a 0130 and got hot buttered toast; we needed vitals read at 15/30/60 minute intervals and the nurse snuck in like a ninja and retrieved all the data without disturbing us; words of kindness and offers of help were heard at every visit to the bedside (when we were awake) and we really felt like ours was the only procedure on the books!

So impressed by the professionalism, kindness and support through the day and night we were there. Definitely a department to be applauded.
