"Don't Bother Calling Them with a Problem After..."

About: Frimley Park Hospital / Ophthalmology

Although my doctor was very nice and the staff were nice, I had trouble getting a doctor to speak with me a few days after my eye surgery.

I was given a pamphlet with the phone number to the Eye Ward and told to ask for the doctor on-call. Well, the doctor refused to speak to me. Whoever answered the phone just relayed my questions to the doctor, then said they would call me back.

I was called back twice, which is good, but still was not allowed to speak to the doctor.

This concerns me because I have Ehlers Danlos syndrome, a connective tissue disorder. They eye drops they recommended could possibly thin the eye tissue for me and/or cause perforation.

The instructions said in big, bold letters, not to use them more than one week, yet I was told to use them for 4 weeks.

This is not acceptable. I was very distressed since the doctor would not speak to me. The member of staff ( maybe a nurse? ) on the phone said it's my choice whether or not I use the drops, but if I don't use them and my eye gets inflamed and I end up back in the Eye Ward, they will just give me the same eye drops again.

I've now had to switch to herbs instead, as I'm not risking eye damage.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

I'm sorry that you haven't been able to speak with the doctor, and the instructions weren't clear for you.

I'd really like to be able to look into this further for you and would appreciate it if you could contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Team (PALs) on palsfrimleypark@fhft.nhs.uk with your details.

This will help the ophthalmology manager understand what's happened with your care.

I do hope you will be in touch

Kind Regards

Claire Marshall
