"Unhappy with consultation for broken big toe"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Accident and emergency Lincoln County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Dropped a piece of kitchen worktop on my foot on Wednesday evening, applied ice cubes and took some paracetamol for pain. I know from breaking two toes previously that they don't do anything for them so thought ice and foot up for a day would suffice but it didn't.

Went to local drop in centre was told immediately to go to A&E as needed attention to release the blood and pus that was building up and that big toes are essential to your balance they will put some kind of shoe on it.

Attended A&E where the nail was punctured and was given an appointment for fracture clinic on Monday. Attended clinic this morning where I waited 1hr after my scheduled time and was then duly made to feel I was wasting the doctors time as he said there was nothing to be done and "oh you'll lose your nail". Was given an ill fitting black shoe to wear.

I reminded the dr that I had arthritis in the other hip and that that leg is shorter than the other so my body frame will be further compromised but he didn't seem to care. I felt I had wasted my time, never mind about his.
