I was extremely nervous about a colonoscopy but I needn't have been.
I was given 5 star treatment from the wonderful team on the endoscopy department.
From the minute I arrived, every nurse I met introduced themselves to me and cared for me in a very genuine way. The whole team were aware of how scared I was and reassured me to go ahead.
The consultant who carried out the procedure was very caring and not all all aloof as some consultants can be. As for the procedure itself, what I found really helpful was that I was told every time there was 'an awkward bit' coming up, which only lasted a few seconds.
I was talked to throughout and even watched on the screen, which helped to distract me. The nurse held my hand and chatted to me. Afterwards I was given tea and toast and was cared for right until I was ready to leave. If you have to go to Darlington hospital for a colonoscopy you have no need to worry as you'll be in very good hands.
Thank you for your incredibly good teamwork.
