A truly wonderful service right on our doorstep. In light of the unrelenting and very unfair media coverage of the NHS of late, We would like to shout out from the rooftops how fantastic the eye service at Rochdale Infirmary is!

Our mum had her right cataract operated in August and has just had her left cataract operated today. The staff should be extremely proud of the fantastic service they provide. In August Mum was very frightened about undergoing the procedure. She was invited to go and have a look around the eye unit first and was greatly reassured by a fabulous nurse, who was very knowledgable and took time to explain everything to her. The anaesthetist also came and assessed mum and was extremely professional and most charming.

On the day, the wonderfully skilled surgeon talked to mum throughout the procedure. Another lovely nurse was by her side the whole time. A cup of tea and a piece of hot buttered toast was provided afterwards in the very pleasant sitting area and mum chatted with other patients who had undergone eye surgery.

Mum was seen by different staff on the two separate occasions but every single member - from receptionists and nurses to anaesthetists and surgeons were absolutely exemplary and we would give them TEN STARS!

Previously mum could not see people's faces, the television properly, everything was cloudy and colours drab.

Now she can see people's features, enjoy the TV, see colours more vibrantly, everything is brighter. She can do her beloved word searches once more.

So thank you to you all, you are just wonderful. From Alice's daughters, Janet, Ann and Kathryn.
