Cross infection due to basic hygiene not being carried out is a complete utter failure. .dealing with paints each one your meant to basic hygiene this includes gloves also scrubbing with alcohol gel. No wonder the elderly and of course others too like your staff are ill....This hospital sorry has a reputation has done for years . Wonder why.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your review, I am very sorry to hear that you feel that the Elderly Medicine services at Wansbeck General Hospital are not up to the hygiene standards that we would clearly expect from all of our hospitals, and that we are not doing all that we can to prevent cross infection. Please be assured that all of our staff are trained in Infection Control and it forms part of our mandatory training programme for all staff. We also promote basic hygiene not only to staff but to patients and visitors as well, with regular poster campaigns encouraging hygiene whilst on hospital premises. We also have hand gel available throughout the hospital and outside of, and on, every ward. Infection prevention is of the upmost importance to us and it is incredibly important to our Trust that we take precautions to prevent any cross infection that can be so easily prevented.

I hope this goes some way in assuring you that we take infection control extremely seriously at the Trust and I will certainly be passing on your comments to the elderly wards at Wansbeck General Hospital to ensure that staff are alerted that their basic hygiene has been reported as below standard by a visitor to the Trust.

Kind Regards

Jessica
