"she whistled through A&E and ..."

About: Royal Free Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

she whistled through A&E and was seen by a competent and sympathetic nurse; and a competnet duty doctor. Within an hour of arrival she had an xray showing a fracture from a competent radiologist. We were told a specialist would be attending A&E one hour later and we should come back. This we did and the specialist opned and booked my daughter in for an opration the very next day for day surgery.

The next day we turned up at the apppinted time in the mornig to the ward where my daughter was looked after by an experienced nurse. the surgeon then vsisted and agreed a course of action. The consultant anaeshetist visited and within two hours my daughter was in

What could be improved

In the ward my daughter ha two "play advisers " visit her and i am not sure what role they had really. In the operating theatre there were about a dozen peiople. when my daughter was taken from the operation back to her ward there was a lift attendant.

This is quite a tricky observation but we do have private medical insurance and had this been done privately it would have taken longer to have the surgery and there would have been fewer people involved e.g play advisers.

The extreme prioritisation of children, while it being a wonderful experience and the resources thrown at it have to be contrasted with my own experience as an adult at the Norwich University Hospital a couple of years ago where i nearly lost a kidney or worse due to the bureaucracy; incompetence; and delays within the system. Only by taking matters into my own hands an going through private medical insurance was I able to rescue the situation.

Anything else?

If there is a negative story about the RFH to match my positive one there is a case for more coordinated mangement of resources and cuts at the margin. If everyone's is as good then let us not tinke with something so excellent.

Thank you for taking the trouble to report what seems to have been a very good experience of care for your daughter.
