"Paediatric Assessment unit was ..."

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

Paediatric Assessment unit was generally good

What could be improved

1. Communication between doctors and between doctors and nurses was terrible to the detriment of my son's care

2. Never saw the same doctor, never saw the surgeon that operated on my son.

3. Cleanliness was really very poor but hardly surprising as there is so much chaos and clutter on the floor areas and shelves that cleaners cannot be expected to work around this. We took our own cleaning materials to protect ourselves. Amazing that the rubbish is carried in lifts with patients.

4. Chaotic administration - in the many hours that we spent waiting over two days I was able to overhear and observe numerous incidents of lost files, missing paperwork, nurses unable to read/understand doctor's instructions etc. etc.

Anything else?

Still awaiting a response to my detailed complaint from 3 months ago and several follow up reminders which regrettably seems part of the overall casual approach that we experienced.
