I have had cataracts all my life, but they degenerated over the last few years. I am 72. I retired recently and found driving more risky! Having been a nurse, I was frightened of the surgery and kept delaying. My optician referred me to Boston West and from then on the system was magic. Prompt, courteous, kind, and reassuring. From the front door to going home, the standards were exemplary. I was unaware of any of the surgery taking place as the anaesthetic drops were totally effective. I only could see the bright light that I had to follow, nothing else, and the theatre staff made reassuring noises. In bout ten minutes it was ll done, and I was ready to go. Having trained at a London teaching hospital, I have been waiting to experience the standards that I knew to be excellent. At last this was it. This is the benchmark that the NHS needs to reach. I am looking forward to getting the next eye done. The bonus is that I can see - but the walls at home all need painting! I hadn't seen that!
