"broken foot problem"

About: Lincoln County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I first went to my gp in february with a foot broken, was given an xray form and went to the xray dept @LCH the following morning. Was xrayed and informed by the excellent staff in that dept there was a 'problem' and that they needed to put my foot in plaster straight away and refer me to the fracture clinic for further diagnosis, they proceeded to do this and then booked me an appointmnet at Dept 11(the fracture clinic) the following morning. The person I saw there, the following morning, asked me if I knew how I had injured my foot, I explained that I couldnt think of a specific time that it happened. It was decided to cut off the plaster and examine my foot. It was decided to put my foot into a fracture boot, provided with some crutches and told not to drive and rest my foot. An MRI screening was arranged and an appointment was made for me to re-attend the fracture clinic 2 weeks later. I had the MRI scan done, returned to Dept 11 as per appointment and was told that they had'nt received the mri scan. waste of appointment. Returned as requested 6 weeks later, and was told the same again. No mri scan details. Was given the option to 'wait and see ' if they could get the scan details, so I did. Half an hour later was called into the room, was asked if my foot was any better, I said it was still hurting. Told to stop wearing the fracture boot and use the foot as normal but no heavy jumpimg or silly things. Another appointment was made for 6 weeks after then. I couldnt attend that date and rearranged it. Was asked to go to xray, got that done, hour and a half later was told that its still fractured, hasnt healed. They are going to book me in for a CT scan and the consultant will see me again in 6 weeks. So since February Ive been living with this foot problem, which, I'm fairly certain, was mis-diagnosed by the fracture clinic consultant and should have been put into plaster and left to heal properly. I think having had 2 visits without the mri scan being available is ridiculous, the hospital where the scan was done have assured me the file was sent to LCH straight away. I am considering whether to take legal advice on this episode as I think in this case the service I have recieved from Dept 11 @LCH has been unnaceptable.
