"Opthalmology booking service is not fit for..."

About: Broomfield Hospital

At my last appointment (9th June), I was told I would get another appointment in three months time,. This is to check up after eye surgery. Four months later I have just rung up to be told "I am on the waiting list.

But they have no idea how long the waiting list is or when i might get an appointment. Since in practice, you get notice of an appointment about a month in advance, this means I will be seen two months late for a three monthly check-up, at the earliest. I asked if my appointment would be next year: "Well obviously not" I was told. Really!

I'll be surprised if it isn't. The booking service for this clinic is not fit for service. It used to be: you made your next appointment in person immediately after your visit to the clinic and everything worked well. Now, it is always late, and it typically takes two phone calls: one because the deadline has passed, and one to rearrange the appointment because you can't make the date they give you at short notice. This wasn't so bad for routine check-ups on eye pressure, but post-op, when my impression is that my sight is deteriorating, this is poor even by Broomfield's dire standards.

Dear Ian

I have passed your feedback to the Eye Clinic Matron and apologise for your experience. If you think your eye sight is deteriorating, please email me your details so I can escalate this to the appointment booking team. jonathan.wright@meht.nhs.uk
