"A & E Dept nursing staff"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Accident and emergency

I had the pleasure of a trip to A&E this evening with my partner after he accidentally hit his thump with a lump hammer! After his thumb doubled in size, went cold, numb and black he reluctantly attended "just to get it checked". We were greeted by a pleasant receptionist and a waiting room reasonably full of very sorry looking people :-( He booked in at the desk and no sooner had we got a seat then his name was called. A lovely nurse listened to his tale, and told him he needed an X-ray. The assured him it was probably broken and the swelling, color and numbness were normal but that he did need to have the pressure under the nail released and they would do that after his X-ray. He was told to get the X-ray and return to the same room. The X-ray took all of 5mins and within 10 mins we were back in the triage room. Once the nurse had relived the pressure under the nail and dressed it. The nurse called us into the room(me and the kids)showed them the X-ray. The nurse explained to the boys about the different parts of the hand, explained what everything was called and what daddy had done to his! The boys were amazed. The nurse had managed to put their dad at ease also which from past experience isn't easy when he is in a hospital! The nurse truly was brilliant and a credit to their profession and your hospital! Our visit from entrance to exit was approx 20-30mins! Fabulous service!!!!
