Communication. It was extremely difficult to obtain any information about patient care and prgress. Doctors did not seem to have a regular visiting schedule and therefore Nursing staff unable to give details from one day to the next. Very long delays between tests for the patient meant that in my opinion the saty in hospital was much longer than necessary.
Anything else?
Appalled that an 87 year lady was sent home by taxi at 21.30hours. WAited nearly 8 hours for her prescription, not given a meal in the evening and left as she had been discharged at 13.00hours. FAmily member had explained that she could be picked up at certain times but this was not taken into account. No information given to this lady and she was left thinking she had been abandonned and nobody came to talk to her and apologise for the delays. She was dropped off at her house at 22.00 hours and left with no assurances she was safe in her home. This is absolutely disgraceful and left her shaken and distressed. She should not have been sent home at this time of night and alarming that it took some 8 hours for a prescription to be made up. They knew the day before she was going home and if procedures had been in place and better organised then the prescription could hav been sorted the day before her departure and she would have been at home during daylight hours and picked up by her family.
