"Rude doctor at a and e"

About: University Hospital Lewisham / Accident and emergency

I brought my mother to a &we, the wait was horrendous.

Apparently we missed her name being called over the speaker which you clearly can't hear above the noise. So she missed her turn and we had to find a doctor to fit her in...does the hospital not realise that sometimes patients can take a while to get to the door.

The tannoy needs to be more clear. We where then met by the most rude doctor whom I will be complaining about. No care for patients or relatives...just damn rude.

Just left not knowing anything because the doctor had the hump.....

We are sorry that you and your mother had such a negative experience in the Emergency Department. We have a policy of calling patients in the waiting room by physically calling their name, if we get no response we put out a tannoy announcement. We appreciate that this is not ideal when the department is very noisy which is why we do it on three separate occasions and by the third time will try and find the nurse who triaged the patient to see if they can identify them in the waiting room.

We welcome all feedback but without more detail it is difficult to investigate individual situations. If you wish to contact our PALS Department at pals.lewisham@nhs.net or on 0208 333 3355 we can look into the matter further.

Kind regards
Patient Experience Team
