My son has unfortunately had a 16 night stay in hospital and prior to this visited the A&E dept 3 times. He also stayed on three different wards during this time , had various tests done in other departments and attended outpatients on discharge. I have not experienced the hospital environment since I left nursing many years ago and was shocked at how things had changed. The list of times when I felt disappointed / frustrated / angry / worried, is quite honestly endless. Although there were some departments which stood out and were well organised with caring staff , the rest was a shambles. I really felt that I had to be on the ball all the time, checking and double checking everything to make sure nothing was missed, at the same time being spoken to by rude, seemingly uncaring members of staff. It saddens me to see our National Health Service in this state. It is definitely nothing to be proud of. I am astounded that this poor standard of care seems to be the norm and is deemed acceptable. You really feel that you have to look after yourself or your loved one and be vigilant. I would really appreciate the opportunity to discuss this with someone, hopefully there will be one person who is interested ........ please.
