"Brilliant treatment for kidney stones and..."

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital / Accident and emergency

Yesterday I unfortunately became seriously ill with what was later found as kidney stones in both my kidneys and they had also become infected. Not one to consider going to a&e, I first went to the Brighton walkin centre but due to the serverity of my condition the nurse of duty told me that I could not be treated there and would need medication intravenously and that I had to go to a&e. When I got to a&e I was seen very quickly by a nurse who immediately sent me to have some samples taken, I was then shortly after seen by the doctor who sent me for a ct scan as they suspected I had kidney stones as well as a servere infection. Once the route cause of my pain and sickness was found it I had the relevant treatment on site and follow up prescription to continue me treatment. I was in a&e for around four hours and in that time I had blood work a ct scan, medication given to me intravenously and two consultants with the doctor and considering how busy it was there that is an amazingly quick turnaround. Not once did I feel like I was a bother or that I was wasting there time, it just seemed that all the staff there wanted to do was make me well again. The doctor on duty in particular was brilliant and discussed with me the pros and cons of having a scan, as well as sending me for a referral to make sure nothing untoward is going on, they even took the time (something I imagine they don't have a lot of) to make sure that I was ok and to give me the opportunity to ask any questions. One of the nurses on duty went out of their way to find me while I was vommiting in the bathroom to give me some much needed pain relief! All the staff just treated me with dignity and respected and we're incredibly caring. It is also worth mentioning that after being discharged I fell to the floor outside the hospital due to the pain and one of the off duty Doctor's came to my aid to see if I was ok and if they could do anything to help. Just wonderful treatment all round, very clean considering the sick and injured people constantly coming through the doors and everyone was really pleasant. I can't thank the staff enough for looking after me when I needed it most.
