"IAPT experience"

About: North East London NHS Foundation Trust

(as a service user),

I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder, I then contacted IAPT snd was offered around 14 sessions with a trained therapist.

I thought the service was brilliant. The therapist used a range of tactics including using visual diagrams to show me the biological processes of my brain, which really helped. I left a completely different person, and my symptoms have greatly reduced. A tip that I would offer to all service users: before going into therapy, I learned it's important to approach it with the right attitude and intention, be prepared to be vulnerable, and be focused on healing and getting better. It probably won't be as useful if you don't. Lastly it's important that if the therapist isn't working for you... change. They are very open to this. Don't be put off by a bad session. Also the changes won't happen immediately but after a few weeks very slowly things begin to sink in. Good luck x
