"Lost in communication.."

About: St Thomas' Hospital / Plastic surgery

I am currently on the waiting list for a bilateral breast reduction. I had my Consultant review on the 1st of September, which was great. My only downfall is that I have a blood disorder that will require me to have a Haematology review prior to my operation. My Consultant stated in the consultation that they had referred me to Haematology.. it also said it in my letter I received 2 weeks later. I have phoned the Plastic Surgery reception team countless times explaining my situation - that I am awaiting my haematology review.. I have been passed on to Haematology twice where the number just rang and rang and I managed to leave a message once, but never heard back. I have left 2 messages with my Consultant's secretary- both times no reply. 23 days later I have found out I am not even on the Haematology waiting list. I was told by my Consultant I would possibly have my op by the end of Sept, early Oct.. I have cancelled going to a cousin's wedding.. I have been waiting for this operation for a long time.. and this has caused me a lot of anxiety! The hospital either doesn’t communicate properly or there is an issue with the referrals system. I am hopefully going to get some good news today when I phone to enquire if I have been properly referred. Being an employee of the NHS.. I work as a Staff Nurse in an A&E in SE London.. and I am just very disappointed in the lack of communication or recognition that I had phoned in several times.. and I have never been contacted back about progress or lack of progress. My lead up to my treatment has been fantastic, but all this has really let me down and upset me.
