"I was admitted as an emergency ..."

About: The Princess Royal Hospital (Telford)

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted as an emergency case on the same day last year 16th April 2009. I was suffering from abdominal pains caused by my stoma not functioning. I quickly deteriorated whilst on ward 14 and the staff had to act quickly as my bowel had twisted and become necrotic. My score went from a level of 6 to level 9 in a matter of minutes and I was close to passing away. The staff were marvellous I had to have two operations to remove furthe bowel on consecutive nights , I remained in intensive care ITU ward for four weeks most on a ventilator. I was then moved to ward 14 where I was looked after till I was discharged on 5th June. Throughout my 50 night stay I was looked after so well by all the staff from the cleaners to the consultant who brought me back to life . I will always be indebted to the wonderful staff.

What could be improved

Everything was perfect

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide comments about your care at the Princess Royal Hospital.

We aim to provide the highest standards of care every time for every patient, and we are pleased to hear that your experience matched our aspirations. We will pass a copy of your feedback to staff on Ward 14 and ITU.

If you think that any particular member of staff - or the whole team - deserves special praise and recognition then please consider nominating them for the Chairman's Award. This special award is presented every two months at the Trust Board meeting. It celebrates members of staff who go above and beyond what is expected of them to provide high standards of care for patients, or improve the working lives of their colleagues. More information is available from our website at http://www.sath.nhs.uk/about/chairmansaward.asp

Thanks again for your feedback.
