"Sent by My GP with Sharp abdominal pains"

About: Darent Valley Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was referred to Darent Valley by my GP after complaining of nausea and sharp and very painful abdominal pains. The GP gave me a note that listed my symptons, medical history, medication that I am on and medication that I am allergic to. I was assessed quite quickly by the triage and then seen by a doctor about 40 minutes later (like others, I'm not complaining about the waiting time, the staff were friendly and professional throughout). After having my abdomen examined by the Doctor they concluded that I must just be suffering from a severe IBS attack but they'd take some blood to be sure. I had already given a urine sample from my GP surgery. I had a blood test and unfortunately passed out in a corridor leading back to the waiting area. Dealt with very quickly and efficiently by the nurses and a GP Trainee. Whilst still quite dazed and confused I was put in a wheel chair and led back to a cubicle to recover. The Nurses were fantastic checking in on me regularly, making sure that I was doing ok and leaving instructions with my partner on what to do if I felt worse (thankfully I didn't) but the next thing struck me as both odd and worrying and I probably would have argued more had I felt stronger. The original doctor who saw me came into the cubicle and told me that my blood work was fine, so I should take this prescription and go home. I read the prescription and they had prescribed a drug that it said on the note from my GP that I'm allergic to. When I said this they grinned at me and said "Why? What happens?" and I told him that I got severe abdominal pains from it, which they chuckled at before saying that it wasn't possible because that was what the drug (buscopan) was to treat. It makes me concerned that they obviously didn't read my medical history before prescribing something and also makes me concerned that they may not have read beyond abdominal pain, in the notes (it was concentrated on the right hand side around the kidney).
