"Was sent home with an infection with high..."

About: Huddersfield Royal Infirmary / Accident and emergency

I have an external frame on due to a badly broken bone. One of the pin sites had become infected. I was away from my home town visiting family. I had no other option but to go to huddesfield A&E because my own orthopedic doctor was unavailable for a few days, so told me to seek urgent help from an A&E department with an orthopedic team to receive treatment. After waiting over 5 hours to see a doctor, in a filthy waiting room, the outcome was I had a serious infection with a high chance of sepsis. However they refused to treat me because I have an orthopedic team who would be better suited to treating me.

This team is almost 65 / 70 miles away and is unable to treat me for 4 days, by then the infection could cause internal bone damage and can put my life at risk. With that in mind they sent me home with antibiotics and said if the site becomes septic to return and then they would treat it. This to me is unacceptable. I am finding it hard to believe a doctor can tell someone you have a chance of sepsis, which can kill, and still find it suitable to send them away without a simple procedure to lessen the risk greatly.
