"Cleaning problems"

About: Basildon University Hospital

(as the patient),

My Brother was recently a patient in william harvey ward Basildon hospital. He has told me a rather disturbing story.

A patient who was unfortunately rather careless when using the ward toilets thereby leaving evidence of his visits on toilet seats. On pointing this out to a member of the nursing staff who in turn called upon the ward cleaner to clean this up was faced with a blunt refusal from the individual stating that it was not his job which necessitated the nursing staff having to do the unpleasant task.

I find this unacceptable and think people should get on with the job they are payed to do leaving the nurses to do the very admirable tasks they are highly qualified to do. It was also noticed that only one floor swab was used to clean the whole ward with hardly a rinse during the whole time it was used, more supervision is required I think. Sorry to appear negative but I was brought up to be clean and to appreciate the proper ideals.
