I underwent a surgical procedure at UCLH in October 2015. My overall experience at this hospital was extremely positive. There were faults which were evident including infighting between nurses and poor hospital food. However, I tend to keep an open mind and the positives far outweigh the negatives. The nurses who who I saw in the beginning before surgery were friendly and did their best to make me feel welcome which I greatly appreciated. They were attentive and professional. I did witness some unsavoury comments between some staff members but this looked to be due to additional pressure resulting from agency staff who didn't know their jobs. The anaesthetist was lovely and took the time to explain their role and allay any fears I had pre-surgery. The nurses in recovery were excellent and very friendly. They were always available to assist and offered me drinks as I was trying to wake up from the anaesthetic. The ward was very peaceful and my overnight stay was very relaxing. I bought my ipad and some earplugs and watched Netflix during my overnight stay. If I needed pain relief or a drink then there was staff available to help me. The operation I had was a success so I have nothing but high praise for the surgeons at UCLH. I can't thank them enough. Like I mentioned previously, I tend to keep an open mind so I wasn't expecting 5* accommodation. However, as a tax payer I do expect a reasonable level of care and cleanliness and I thought this was exceeded by the NHS staff at UCLH. Overall, I would have no hesitation in recommending this hospital for treatment to my family members which should serve as very high praise indeed. Thank you!
