"Excellent Person Centred Care"

About: University Hospital Wishaw

(as a relative),

My relative has recently been an inpatient within ward one in wishaw general hospital. She has suffered from mental illness and disorder for most of her adult life. I have visited her throughout all of her admissions to acute admission wards and I am delighted to say that her stay in ward one reinstated my faith in mental health services.

From admission to discharge the staff were nothing but supportive they empowered her from the beginning and supported her to be able to make choices about her care, I found this particularly refreshing when she was handed a care plan and encouraged to set goals for herself which the staff went out their way to help her achieve. This admission was the first time I ever seen her completely benefit from. Her mood and mental health appeared to improve much quicker than it ever had done before and for the first time she was discharged with a sense of hope and a new found confidence for life.

Thank you ward one!

Dear MrsS178

Many thanks for your positive feedback, it is our aim to provide a person centred approach to care and involve our patients in participating fully in the planning of their care and identifiying outcomes that are important to them

I am delighted to hear that your relative's mental health is much improved and that you feel the approaches taken within ward 1 have contributed to her recovery

I will share your comments with the staff team to let them know that their approach to patient care is appreciated and that your relative found this to be beneficial in their recovery

Best Wishes
