"My mother in law was a patient ..."

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford)

(as a relative),

What I liked

My mother in law was a patient on Kenn Ward.

The staff were friendly. The ward was clean bright and airy. We were very satisfied with the care she received.

What could be improved

The shift system for nurses means that a given nurse does not spend many days with the same patient. Over a three month period the most typical remark was ."I have only just come on the ward" The nurses were very competent and friendly but the shift system operates against continuity of knowledge about particular patients. The system for ward sisters and junior doctors seemed better. It is extremely unusual to bump into a consultant on the ward during visiting hours

Anything else?

Junior doctors could be more proactive with close family visitors so as to give them an update on their relative.
