"Hip Trauma"

First rate surgery and care: I was admitted to the Trauma unit after some trouble convincing the reception staff that I could not get out of the car I was a passenger in because of a broken hip which is why we were parked in an ambulance bay. My wife eventually convinced them to get help from an ambulance crew who put me on a stretcher. From here on it was 5 star treatment and care. My surgeon and their team operated on me with full explanation of options and care. The nursing care on Ward 30 was constant and caring throughout my week long stay (unlike other hospitals including private I have used) and the accommodation was exceptional including the private room that all patients on Ward 30 used. Discharge day was a bit of a hiccup down to the Group4 Ambulance service sub-contracted to take dischargees home who had agreed to take me home from 09.30 but who did not turn up until the evening and only then because of a formal complaint by the sister to them. Their ambulance was extremely uncomfortable for a hip replacement patient who felt every bump in the road of what felt like a converted large van done up to look like an ambulance. I eventually arrived home at 19.15 after a painful journey. So 5 stars for Pembury Hospital and no stars for Group4.
