"Disgusting treatment"

About: St Thomas' Hospital / Cardiology

My mother was transferred from Darenth Valley hospital apparently because they had space to do the pacemaker operation consultants had said she needsAfter waiting three days she was prepared for surgery, taken to the operating theatre and it was as this point that the consultant decided to read the notes. They then decided that pacemaker wasn't a good idea. My mother was then taken back to the ward in an anxious and distressed state. I addressed the issues I had face to face with one of the cardiac team and their response to my concerns was to try and patronise me and not acknowledge my legitimate concerns about lack of communication. They also asked me what they thought I would gain from making a formal complaint. I explained that I hoped to achieve a situation where notes were read and clinical decision making were made in an appropriate and timely manner. The new procedure my mother needs is a twenty minute cardoversion I was hoping it would be done to day now it looks like it won't be. From a resources point of view my mother has now been in hospital for eleven days waiting for a simple procedure . The expense of this suggests strongly to me that this is a hospital that is badly managing its resources

The one positive point is that the nursing staff all seem very good and the sister was sympathetic and understanding of our distresd
