I was admitted to the Northern General Hospital in January 2009 with kidney failure. The nurses and the doctors were amazing; they were kind, friendly and helpful. The nurses even took my dirty night ware home to wash, as I have no family here to help me. Even the cleaners brushed my hair on several occasions. The doctors visited me several times a day and explained everything to me about my treatment and care. An excellent service.
I then went home and for a year have been house based. I am over 65 and have a state pension and attendance allowance and this does not give me enough money to go out. I pay for cleaners, people to do my shopping and Help the Aged wanted £14 per hour to take me out to pay for petrol to and from the visited places.
I have no family here and the care that has been arranged for me has been really poor. I have struggled so much for a whole year. My doctors at Upperthorpe medical centre have been great and very helpful. An excellent hospital experience but a very bad experience of care when discharged from hospital.
"Excellent hospital experience but lack of after care"
