"Not confident about hygiene"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

(as the patient),

I was in this NHS hospital in 2005. I thought my bedside table was so dirty that I asked my husband to bring in disinfectant and a cloth. I could see some dried up food, layers and layers of it. I could see it even with double vision. I was self caring so I think that is why I survived. I could clean it and I thought the sink in my room was dirty as well so every day I cleaned that myself too.

Went there again last year for an internal examination and was handed a gown which I saw was covered in bright red blood stains. I did not feel very confident of their hygiene there because of my previous experience. I have to say I dread ever having to go there again, especially if unable to look after myself. That is a frightening thought for me. This hospital used to smell and look clean to me, not anymore as I have seen in some places there is dust and fluff in corners.

I think I do have high standards as I have been a carer and cleaner for above twenty years so I feel like I notice things, but surely there should be nothing bad to notice.
