"A very positive experience"

About: Good Hope Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I was admitted for a planned caesarean section for my second child last Tuesday. The surgery went well and from the moment I left the theatre the care from the midwives was fantastic. A lovely midwife had my new born baby latched to my breast half an hour after surgery and the support for breast feeding continued throughout my stay. I was very nauseous after surgery and on the ward the midwives were so kind and let me do things at my own pace. My care through the night, led by a student midwife, was excellent with regular checks and updates which were quiet and respectful of the small amounts of sleep new mothers and infants need. I was discharged the next day and felt confident to breast feed, my pain was under control and I felt I had had a very positive experience. Thank you to everyone on floor 5 who work so tirelessly to support new mums and their babies.

Dear Sumo baby

Firstly may I congratulate you on the safe arrival of your little one! Thank you so much for your kind comments about the care and support you received during your stay in ouor Maternity Services at Good Hope Hospital.

I'm so pleased to read that you were supported throughout to breast feed your baby, and that the student midwife who looked after you overnight after the birth was respectfully quiet and mindful of your rest as a new mother, despite her having to carry out her essential checks.

Your feedback is exactly how we want our new mummies to feel and I would like to thank you once again for taking the time out of your very busy day to provide your comments, patient feedback is extremely important to us!

I will be delighted to ensure that your feedback is highlighted to our Lead Midwife for Patient Experience, who will I'm sure be as equally delighted to share your comments with all of the Midwifery Team at Good Hope Hospital, as well as throughout the Trust. Our staff work very hard to provide a positive patient experience.

Again, my congratulations to you and your family for your new arrival!

Kindest regards

Marie Helebert
