I was taken to A&E by emergency ambulance with a suspected heart attack and was assessed without delay. I was transferred to the Coronary Care Unit within 4 hours As this was a critical care ward with, I think, only 9 beds, the staff had the time to provide more than just nursing care - having nurses and HCAs who could spare some extra time to make sure that I had understood what the doctors had said (despite everything being explained clearly) made a huge difference during what was a rather frightening time. As I was in a side ward at that point, it was also good that they kept looking in and making sure that I felt okay. They probably didn't need to as I was wired up to a monitor and had regular observations done, but it made a huge difference to how I felt.
After a few days and with my condition stabilised, I was transferred to the Cardiac Ward, as there were still some tests that needed doing. Again, the care was good despite there being far more patients to the number of staff. I was discharged after about a week.
At all times, in all departments and by all staff, I was treated with dignity, respect and consideration. I cannot praise the RUH too highly. Thank you for looking after me so well.
"Outstanding care"
