"Been refused by reception staff."

About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / Accident and emergency

I am writing on behalf of an accident I seen at a and e in Wigan. A young man came in shivering and could barely walk when approaching the reception desk they immediately refused him and rang through to security. Where it took three security guards to remove him whilst damaging his already sore knees. When the man sat on a wheel chair to rest his knees the three guards screamed for him to go to the taxi rank. Never have I whitnessed such cowards in order to take three of them to remove him when he was causing no trouble at all. And never have I met such judgemental staff to refuse an ill man who was in need of help. If you need to go to a and e I'd suggest a different hospital as you may be refused due to your appearance.

Thank you for your posting. I was sorry to learn of your observations in respect of the gentleman attending the A&E whilst you were in the department. Although I am unable to comment about the circumstances you have described, I will ensure that the Division of Medicine are made aware of your comments.

Kind regards
