"Hospital let my daughter down"

About: Royal Hampshire County Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

My 21yr old daughter was rushed to rhch after suddenly losing the use of her left leg. Paramedic staff and ED staff were caring, but a vital Mri was unavailable as it isn't staffed at night.

The next day she was shipped to Basingstoke, as rhch mri scanner was broken, then heard spinal mri was ok. From this point on senior staff at rhch couldn't get rid of her quickly enough.

She needed input from neurology, but as Winchester doesn't have an in-house team, she was not dying and not getting worse this was refused.

As her mother I was ignored, patronised and given little support while I tried to get her the medical help she was entitled to.

nurses and She's tried their best, but consultants make the final decisions on treatment, and I didn't get to speak to any of them. I had to organised support for her at home, as ward staff didn't have discharge policy information. She is now at home, still with a leg that doesn't work and has to wait for a neurology outpatient appt.

The worst part of the whole experience was the comment to her by a senior member of staff that there would be no point referring her to anyone else as 'this is how she's made' so she'd better get used to being paralysed.

This to a young girl on her own on a ward in pain, with no medical tests to back up the assertion..

I will be making a formal complaint about her treatment or lack of at rhch.
