"Dis-charge Nightmare!"

My mother was a patient at the Lodge ( having being referred from Ipswich Hospital) from the 10th of August until her untimely dis-charge on the 31st of August 2016.

During her time at the Lodge we felt there was a distinct lack of nursing care with a dressing to her ankle ulcer often being left un-changed for several days on end, despite the dressing being soaked through and leaking!

I had to resort to changing a dressing myself as the staff had informed my mother that they were too busy!

In general the experience was average, but very little information regards her condition and treatment were ever supplied, and physiotherapy generally consisted of a 10 minute walk up and down the corridor. I was very alarmed when I was contacted regards her dis-charge as she was still in a very frail condition and very unsteady on her feet.

However, we made it home. Following a sleepless night with my mother not having the strength to move herself from her bed to the commode chair beside it, my mother fell 4 times, and having called out her G.P. she was re-admitted to the Ipswich Hospital less than 24 hours later.

My advice would be to make yourself known to all the staff and insist upon being updated regards a patients progress and treatment plan or you may, as we did, slip through the cracks!
