"Waiting room needs cheering up"

About: Eastbourne District General Hospital / General medicine

(as a relative),

This is just a suggestion to the hospital, it is in no way a criticism of the staff who I felt were kind and efficient. Recently my husband had to attend a Nuclear Medicine full body bone scan. It meant he had to go to the hospital for an injection, wait 3 hours (he was allowed home in that time) and then go back for the scan.

I obviously attended with him, and waited in the waiting room. How glad I was he did not have to wait long! Both the main radiology waiting rooms had bright cheerful prints on the walls. But I thought the small waiting room we were in was so dismal, when people who are there know that the reason they are being scanned is to detect tumours or serious illness. The pictures on the walls were in black and white and of landmarks such as Stone Henge. Lovely prints if they were in another ward/corridor or against a bright wall. I thought the waiting room was utterly depressing.

I know money is short for the NHS, but bearing in mind the other lovely photos and prints elsewhere in the hospital, couldn't something be done in this area? I would suggest bright sunflowers - or poppies as in the main radiology waiting room. I think it was made worse by the fact that I could see there was a large cobweb hanging from the ceiling!

The happy outcome is my husband has been told it is not cancer as was suspected - but I pity anyone else waiting in that area. Little things sometimes mean a lot.
