What I liked

I was admitted for possible shunt malfunction, althoug wait was long I found the staff excellent working in hard environment with a ct scanner that was broken so I had to go to another hospital for that, the docs and nurses were really supportive even though they had some really rude visitors!

What could be improved

Ct scanner not broken!

Anything else?

They gave me lots of meds to help my pain releif before releasing me to next hospital for ct and were really nice and caring, the hospital was impecibly clean and works hard with a evergrowing population of old people in stevenage to deal with - the carehomes just shove loads of old people there as they are not doing there jobs properly and lister has to deal with unnessessary care home offloads in mau all the time! i know this as Ive been hospitalised at lister on 5/6 occations!

Thanks for your very kind comments - which we will make sure are shared with our clinical colleagues.

Currently we have one CT scanner at each of the Lister and QEII, which get used pretty much constantly. It is this continuous and intensive use that does lead to breakdowns, which in turn can mean trips to our other hospital as the machine is repaired.

But help is on its way. From the latest information we have been given, we very much hope that a new, additional CT scanner at the Lister will help to ease the load from July 2010. Not only will both machines be able to back each other up in emergencies, it will also allow our radiology team to schedule routine maintenance in a way that hopefully pre-empts problems before they happen. Roll on July!
