"Orthopaedics Department High Wycome"

About: Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

I am a paraplegic and recently broke my right leg below the knee and admitted to the Spinal Unit. I had a full leg plaster fitted and informed by the Orthopaedics team that it would take 6-8 weeks and the registrar would book this. I decided a week later to check the appointment only to find non had been made and it took me several weeks to get it sorted. When I attended the review at Wycombe I was informed (by a registrar) it would be a further 4 weeks which was a shock with no real explanation. I accepted this and was then informed that the appointment was move to 6 weeks and again no real explanation offered. When again I was examined by the same registrar they informed me that it was 70% done and to come back in 4 weeks again they would book the appointment. When I received the confirmation again it was 6 weeks. At the same time I had the plaster cast was reviewed by the nurse in the plaster room who said they would check on the next appointment for me. I telephoned them to confirm the change from 4-6 weeks and they were aghast and said they would speak with the consultant as all these appointments meant travelling form Buckingham to Wycombe as there were no longer clinics running in Stoke for follow up patients. I then received a telephone call from the consultants secretary saying that an appointment had been rescheduled at Stoke for 4 weeks and would like to commend the plaster nurse for their welcome assistance, caring attitude and understanding . Its this that restores my faith in the system despite the setbacks.

Dear Patient

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on this site.

I am sorry to hear of the difficulties you initially experienced with your follow up appointments, following your admission to the Spinal Unit for a broken leg. However, I am very pleased to learn that, depsite the initial setbacks, a convenient and timely appointment was arranged for you. It is further pleasing to learn that when you attended the appointment you found the plaster nurse to be welcoming, caring and understanding. I am glad that this positive outcome has restored your faith in the 'system'.
