Over the past twelve months I've had treatment/surgery to correct retinal detachments in boths eyes which is ongoing.
It has given me a unique insight as each eye was treated by a different consultant and I've also had some private care.
What is massively clear is that the opthamology resource is not fit for purpose; the ability to service patients needs is far outstripped by demand.
Postponed opertaions, delays in getting into urgent surgery, varying quality of treatment, lack of clear instruction.
The list goes on.
But worse that this is the shambolic clinic and uncaring often rude staff.
Stunning!
Do they not realise they are meant to be delivering a caring service to worried patients?
People who have jobs and can't hang around waiting for hours to be seen.
To make matters worse I have a family member who's had the same condition treated in Birmingham where he says he received a swift, courteous and caring service.
It was actually suggested to me by another doctor that I should drive to eye casualty in Birmngham rather than subject myself to the LRI!
Without doubt there are some fabulous doctors, junior doctors especially.
Look at the other reviews - I don't understand why this department hasn't been sorted?
"Humiliating and worrying"
