"Phlebotomy again!"

About: Altrincham General Hospital

My husband needed a blood test for a clinic at Wythenshawe Hospital.

After waiting for 2 hours he was informed if it is a request from Wythenshawe he should be at Altrincham General by 10.30. How are we supposed to know this, when the person requesting the test didn't even know.

I was told there have been more phlebotomists employed but there were only 2 on this morning.

The person he spoke to was very defensive and quite rude.

People don't just bring a book to read now they are eating their sandwiches in the waiting room.

Oh for the days of the old hospital.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your husband's experience was not as positive as we would hope on his attendance at Altrincham Hospital. It is important to us that comments are heard and seen as an opportunity provided to the service to make changes and improvements wherever possible.

The Operational Manager for Altrincham Hospital is very sorry for the inconvenience caused to your husband due to incorrect information regarding attendance times being provided by the referring clinic. As a result of your concerns the Operational Manager will ensure that all external agencies referring into Altrincham Hospital are reminded of the correct time patients need to present for blood testing.

To assist with the demand upon the phlebotomy service, we can confirm that recruitment has been undertaken at Altrincham Hospital and that 3 Phlebotomists are due to commence in post by the end of October 2016.

The Operational Manager is very sorry for the way your husband was spoken to, as we expect our staff to speak to all patients and visitors with dignity and respect. Your comments will be shared at the Altrincham Hospital Outpatient meeting scheduled for 11th October 2016, so that lessons can be learned from your husband's experience so that it does not happen to anyone else.
