"More motivation for the elderly needed"

About: Ripon and District Community Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My Father-in-law has been in Ripon community hospital. He is in his 80's he is frail and weak. Before he entered hospital he managed to walk with an aid about 30 yards, he could get out of bed get dressed and do his ablutions on his own.

He broke his hip in a fall had an op to repair it. Three months down the line we are told he has had no more than 30 min of physio a day if at all. The staff dress him in the morning put him in a chair and then it seems to me he sits in it all day. Where is the motivation? Why can’t they put the patients around a table for their meals so they get a bit of interaction with others? Why does he sit looking at a wall all day when they could put him in the day room with some games and a TV?

Are the staff too busy? As long as the place is quiet I guess. From my experience of visiting, I think some of the staff are great but it varies between shifts.

Now we are told that he can’t go home because he's too weak to look after himself.
