"Our family's experience in ward 61 in GRI."

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Trauma & orthopaedics (wards 26, 27, 61 & 62 )

(as a relative),

My mum had an accident and was admitted to ward 61 in the GRI. Within a week my mum developed pnumonia And nothing could be done for her. She was moved into a private room and all my family (12 of us) were given constant access to the relatives room. We weren't made to feel in the way at all. My mum survived 4 days and within that period she was given excellent care by the pallative care team and also the nurses. The nursing staff made what was an awful time in our lives a comfortable one. To name a few nurses E Watson, E Kirkwood, L McAuley, R Sneddon and M Allan were wonderful. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. I also have to mention Gareth on ward 61 who is a shining star. Every day he provided the family with tea, coffee and even biscuits and nothing was ever a bother for him. My 86 year old father gained comfort from the care my mum received from all staff, nurses and doctors.

Dear Jaz

Thank you for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion. I am very sorry to hear about your mum, this must be a very difficult time for you, your father and your family. I am glad you were all made to feel welcome by our staff and given constant access to spend time with your mum and that the care your mum was given gave your father comfort.

I will ensure your kind words are shared with the staff in 61, especially those you have mentioned by name. They too will be glad to hear that the care they provided made a difficult time a little more comfortable by the way in which they provided that care.

My thoughts are with you, your father and your family.
Lisa
