"oncology and haematology wait for being seen"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Cancer Services (Medical Oncology)

(as the patient),

I found a lump in my groin this after having trouble with prostate and also stomach problems --notices the bump had been feeling itches all over the place

consultant return to check how I was doing was ok he he said do a ct scan, OK when it came out to go it back to being a endoscope -contacted consultant never there

gp sent blood test to hospital called back 4 days later good -- but since no consulatnat in oncology looked at the request we are dealing with people lives here guys --get a sympathy injection and treat early it would save in the long run

how difficult is it to look at an e mail and get a letter out minutes and they have secretaries -- ok test such as blood was done from gp to lab and results back in days why not at oncology --they are the ones that should be faster than anyone bar the emergency room

and why are they so special they cant be called? sorry but I think some consultants need more compassion and what the problem with working 60 hours a week I have done it for 50 years and you guys as doctors surely did it for more than the money

Thanks for getting in touch via Patient Opinion.

All referrals are vetted by a Consultant Haematologist/Oncologist. When urgent referrals that are downgraded a letter is written to the GP to explain why. This is not uncommon as GPs often do not have a good understanding of blood disorders. Patients who require urgent intervention are seen very rapidly, often within 24 hours of the blood test. The information available will have made a routine appointment appropriate in this case.

Given the many complex and different issues you mention I feel a direct response may not satisfy your need for answers and would encourage you to contact NHS Grampian feedback services at:
