What I liked

What could be improved
My Grandfather was rushed to the Royal SC on the 27th March through A&E. All of the information and drugs that were sent with him from the care home were lost on his arrival. He was suffering from terminal non-small cell carcinoma of the lung but it was quite clear that noone knew this because he was given a chest x-ray in A&E!!!??? My parents received a call asking what drugs he was taking because noone could locate his file!!!??!!! When they visited him he was agitated because the doctors had given him a dose of Oxycontin well above his previous dosage and no sedative had been given. He was in immense pain and totally delirious. No staff were able to locate a palliative care consultant and he was not sedated, despite several requests from relatives. The man was screaming in pain!!! We have never observed such a total shambles in all our lives. Thankfully, after 48 hours of what seemed like pure hell he was sedated and eventually put on the Liverpool care pathway and passed peacefully on the morning of the 29th March. It is such a shame that he suffered so much pain at the hands of staff at the Royal Sussex as he was coming to the end of his terminal illness. My family will be making a formal complaint about these events, which, having checked the BBC news recently, do not seem uncommon. Untrained staff and total lack of communication appear to be a real problem. I just hope that noone else has these experiences. Of note, for Cancer Care of any kind, please get reffered to the Royal Marsden Cancer Centre in London.
"NOTHING."
