"My stay at Atkinson Morley St georges"

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) / Neurology

(as the patient),

I was referred to St Georges from my local hospital as an emergency. I arrived on Bronte ward and a nurse left me to write up my own admission paper. I was told I would have some tests done the next day (Friday) in opthalmic department. I asked a nurse what was happening regarding tests that day. Dr on ward overheard conversation and he told me in a rather unpleasant manner that "absolutely nothing was going to happen on that day and it may happen on Monday" (so much for the emergency! ! ). On the Monday I was whisked away for tests in opthalmic department but had to wait 3 hours there to get seen. Drs were screaming for me to go back to the ward for a procedure to be done that I didn't know I was going to have.

Overall the communication was bad from the drs there as what they were going to do on a daily basis. One Dr there I found particularly rude and obnoxious. One nurse greeted patients on ward but didn't acknowledge I was there unless it was handover time and did handover picking their nose which I thought was disgusting.

One night nurse didn't give me my early morning meds and when I brought this up another nurse looked at me as if I was a pain for bringing this up. They said they would look into it and get back to me. A few hours later I had to chase him up as to what was going on.

The staff member catering for the days meals during the week was miserable and had a rather bad attitude to everyone. Not once did they smile or were pleasant at all! ! I'm not asking for sympathy but a cheerful disposition would have been nice.

Senior nurse manager and other nurses were lovely though. But from the overall impression I got from my stay there was that I never want to go back there. I have said to my neurologist at my local hospital on several occasions that I don't want to go back there. But his reply is that I have to because there are neurosurgeons there.

I suffer depression anxiety and my stress levels go up at the thought of going back there for appointments. Also I have booked transport to get me there for appointments and have arrived almost two hours late for an appointment which is no good for me at all. If I were an animal I would have been put down by now because I have no quality of life ......
