"the very efficient, kind and caring ..."

About: North Manchester General Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

the very efficient, kind and caring triage nurse

What could be improved

on arrival at the childrens A and E dept' the triage nurse reassured me and my son and was very kind. they gave my son (8 yrs) pain relief for his injured hand. however the doctor we saw was very abrupt and didn't explain anything to us. the doctor sent my son for an x-ray and i was horrified to discover that they had ordered an x-ray on some bones in his foot instead of his hand. eventually, when we returned to A and E, the doctor came to our cubicle and told us there was nothing wrong and to go home. the doctor was very dismissive and offered no explanation of his injuries or advice on pain relief. they quickly disappeared into the department and i wasn't given the opportunity to ask questions or voice my anxieties. fortunately, the triage nurse spotted us leaving the dept' and offered to fit my son with a sling, explaining that it would help to relieve the swelling. the nurse also advised on pain relief and after care. this nurse was a true n.h.s angel but i believe this level of care should have been offered by the doctor before we left the dept'....we were almost out of the building when the nurse spotted us. my son cried himself to sleep tonight with the pain and discomfort but i will not be returning to n.m.g.h for help.
