"SOME members of the nursing team ..."

About: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

SOME members of the nursing team were supportive and understanding

What could be improved

Other nurses and Doctors

Anything else?

I was admitted to the A&E department with mental health related problems. Having worked as a nurse previously I knew some of the staff members and most were supportive in the difficult situation. When my mental health declined further whilst in the department and I tried to hang myself, the doctor who aided the nurses in cutting me down shouted at me and told me how stupid I was behaving. It was nice to see one of the other nurses stand up for me and tell him he was wrong to say that. I was obviously in a bad way and I know that A&E nurses probably get sick of people with mental health problems, they would much rather prefer a trauma, but I cannot help what is wrong with me. If you go into that profession you can't be selective and you should show equal respect to your patients regardless of what is wrong with them.

Pleased to hear that most of the nurses were supportive. We are sorry to hear about your mental health problems and apologies for any distress caused by the doctor back in October 2008. It does sound like it was a very difficult situation for all concerned.
