"A long wait"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Endoscopy

(as a relative),

My mother had an endoscopy appointment for 2pm and was finally taken at 5. 15pm. No explanation was given. She could not fault the staff but was left sitting (along with others waiting for their appointments) without anyone addressing the fact that the service ran over 3 hours late.

Dear xxyyh

Thank you for your useful feedback. I am sorry that your mother and other patients were not kept up to date about their wait for their test, this must have been frustrating for all and I know how I would feel if this happened to me.

I have spoken to Thando, who is the Senior Charge Nurse of the Endoscopy Unit and while the staff do advise when lists are running late, this clearly is not consistent.

Thando will speak to the staff first thing tomorrow to remind them to advise our patients and relatives when there are delays in the lists. There is also a white board in the reception area and we will also use this also to advise of any waiting times.

I have also shared your post with the Senior Charge Nurse and our staff on the Victoria Hospital site as this is relevant to them too.

I hope that your mother has recovered well following her procedure.

Thanks again for taking the time to post. If you would find it helpful to speak to me directly about this, please give me a ring on 01592 643355 ext 20148.

Kind regards

Gill Ogden

Update posted by xxyyh (a relative)

Thank you for responding so quickly and taking action to ensure that all delays are communicated to patients. Another of our concerns (as a family) was that mum had not eaten before her procedure which meant that she had not eaten since the night before. She is fine now but found the day a bit of a trial.

I am glad that I took the time to contact Patient Opinion.
