I was diagnosed with a grade 3 invasive ductal carcinoma in July 2015. The tumour couldn’t be detected via self-examination and was identified when I attended a routine mammogram for the over 50s. I am extremely grateful for the breast screening service, because of this service I have been able to have my cancer detected early enough to enable successful treatment. The gift of life is an amazingly powerful commodity and I’m in no doubt that the Bucks Breast Unit has bestowed this gift upon me.
During my treatment the teams came together and delivered a service that exceeded my expectations. I was treated by the Breast Unit based at Wycombe Hospital. I’m appreciative of the amazing professional care that I have received throughout my treatment. The gorgeous Giles for his skilful surgery and the charming Andrew who made chemotherapy bearable by injecting humour into our appointments. Andrew also referred me out of the Trust so that I could have Deep Inspiration Breathe Hold Radiotherapy which at the time I didn’t qualify for within the Bucks Trust. The professional and compassionate nursing teams at both the Wycombe Breast Unit and the Stoke Mandeville Chemotherapy ward were amazing and also so were the volunteers. The Trust delivers a first rate breast cancer treatment service that it should be proud of.
