"Unpredicatble quality of breastfeeding support"

I'm a first time mum who was keen to breastfeed my baby. While in ward where I stayed for 2 days post C section the midwives/nursery nurses kept telling me my latch was good.

Got home and midwife came in to see me next day. I was sore and bleeding from an incorrect latch. Midwife was great support. I also got a call from breastfeeding support who asked how I was getting on when I explained my situation but mentioned midwife had been in they didn't seem keen to visit.

Over the next 8 weeks I struggled to feed my baby. My baby wouldn't stay latched on and was very frustrated at feeds which ended up with us all in tears. Called the breast feeding support workers numerous times. A lot of time advice on the phone and not getting calls returned then when someone did come out felt like I was an inconvenience to them. They never once acknowledged my baby.

It took me to breakdown to my health visitor who arranged a visit from a support worker who took the time with us and noticed my baby had a tongue tie.

Within 2-3 days I was seen at the community dentist and the tongue tie snipped. After that I was able to carry on my breast feeding journey.

Can't understand why a service can be so unpredictable. I felt giving up so many times and felt very unsupported from the professionals.
